Glossary
Eruv:
On Shabbat it is prohibited to carry items in the public domain. In the past, communities lived within walled cities and everything within those walls was considered the private domain. In order to allow the carrying of items on shabbat the solution was the creation of a boundary known as the Eruv. This continuous boundary is made up of fences, telephone and rail lines. You can check the status of the Toronto Eruv here.
Daf Yomi:
Hebrew for 'page of the day', Daf Yomi is a daily regimen of studying the oral torah (the Gemara). The entire Talmud is completed, one day at a time, in a cycle of seven and a half years.
